Founded in 2020 by a cohort of likeminded people with a vast amount of knowledge and experience in supporting grassroot & micro-community organisations.
The idea for Capacity for Change was developed as a direct response to, and in recognition of, the changing needs of local communities during a global pandemic which relied upon a place based approach, highlighting the value of the sector.
We are passionate about enabling social sector organisations to be able to lead on initiatives that allow them to meet the needs of their communities.

Capacity for Change is dedicated to supporting grassroots organisations across Liverpool City Region and wider by providing essential resources and training.
Our mission is to upskill and empower these organisations to thrive in making a meaningful impact in their communities.

In August 2025, Capacity for Change was proud to be commissioned to facilitate an inspiring Away Day for Breast Mates, a much-loved local charity that supports women and families affected by breast cancer.
The day brought together volunteers, members, and supporters for a powerful mix of reflection, celebration, and forward planning — a chance to pause, reconnect, and look ahead to an exciting future.
Purpose and Aims
The Away Day was designed to:
• Celebrate the charity’s impact and honour the vital contributions of its volunteers and trustees.
• Strengthen team cohesion through interactive and inclusive team-building activities.
• Build shared understanding of roles, responsibilities, and successes across the organisation.
• Co-develop a collective vision for the future, focusing on new projects and income generation.
A Day of Connection and Collaboration
The day was filled with warmth, laughter, and meaningful discussion. Participants shared stories, explored new ideas, and reflected on what makes Breast Mates so special. Interactive sessions, such as the scenario workshop, encouraged creative problem-solving and helped highlight the strengths of the group.
The feedback speaks for itself. Out of 27 attendees who completed the evaluation:
• 23 rated the day as “Excellent” and 2 as “Good.”
• 16 said it exceeded their expectations, and another 9 said it met them fully.
• Every participant felt included, valued, and able to contribute — and almost all said they left feeling energised, motivated, and more confident.
What Participants Said
“An ideal, amazing day, sharing knowledge and experiences.”
“I wasn’t looking forward to today, but I really enjoyed it.”
“Just keep doing what you are doing — I’ve had a brilliant day, thank you.”
“This should be a yearly event.”
Participants described the day as a powerful reminder of the value of teamwork, collaboration, and belonging. Many said their biggest takeaway was a renewed sense of purpose and connection — and a deeper appreciation for the role that volunteers play in keeping Breast Mates thriving.
Our Role
As facilitators, Capacity for Change worked closely with Breast Mates trustees to design a day that balanced celebration with strategy — combining creative exercises, reflection, and practical planning. Together, we helped the group explore ideas for growth, identify new income opportunities, and reaffirm the shared vision that drives their incredible work.
We at Capacity for Change feel privileged to work alongside such a passionate and dedicated group. The energy, openness, and sense of community in the room were truly inspiring. Breast Mates are a shining example of what happens when lived experience and compassion come together to make a difference.”
We’re delighted that our work helped to spark fresh ideas and deepen the sense of unity within Breast Mates. The energy from the day continues to ripple forward as they explore new projects, partnerships, and opportunities for growth.

We love our communities, so feel free to contact us to arrange a meeting.
